So sightings of mountain lions in Amador county as close as half a mile from our ranch were course for concern... after thinking about my ability with a gun - I'm still limping - it was not a difficult to decision to investigate shepherd dogs - BIG shepherd dogs. A quick discussions with other breeders revealed Anatolian shepherd dogs as the breed of choice for most types of live stock. Being low on cash by now I checked out the National Anatolian Rescue Network. These people led by a lady of the name Carleen Conyers, do a remarkable job with limited resources of matching people to dogs that are "no longer wanted"... or in similar circumstances. |
Yes Trix, there is a DAWG in there... |
So Trix, (50lb Labrador), meet your new buddy Rya (99.5lb Anatolian) |
Yes, I can scratch and lick at the same time... |
The bonding process between our Labrador - Trix - and Rya - our Anatolian took approximately three days. I now find Trix on a regular basis working the outer perimeter fence just as the big girl does...
