Moving pregnant dams long distances
has problems...

One of the most important issues that we, as breeders, face is the need to secure regular and trouble free pregnancies of our valuable Dams. Unfortunately this often involves, for logistics reasons, taking the Dam to the Stud. Stress induced by travel is known to cause the release of cortisone into the blood which will cause the fetus to be absorbed. Some research has found that this release of cortisone can be blocked by treatment with Banimine. I have obtained this information from a seemingly reliable source but PLEASE check with your Camelid Vet to confirm this information and required dosage...

Based upon my past experiences in this regard, to date I have had to absorbed pregnancies due to travel distances of 250 miles or greater. As a result of this I now choose to use Banamine as a standard for trips of two hours or greater

I would appreciate any more information as to who did this research - MSS
The alternate solution is to take the stud to the dam... It is quite amazing how quickly the boys lock in to the significance of a road trip in the honemoon express. I have eve experienced boys fighting over getting into the trailer when a breeding off site is anticipated.
