So I guessed you missed it if you
are looking at this page...
Too bad, it was an impressive lecture
August 10th 2002 meeting of:-

The guest speaker was none other than :

Maggie is recognized as one of the
pre-eminent alpaca judges in the world.
The title of her talk was:

FACTS BEHIND FIBRE?

CRITERIA BEHIND CRIMP?

PREPARATION FOR PROCESSING?

A three hour expose on the above topics that are key to the issues that currently face alpaca breeders across North America as we move toward using the renewable resource that alpacas give us. This presentation will incorporate the most up-to-date resources to help the breeder understand the background theory and practical application of alpaca fibre. From the back of the alpaca to end product there are issues that require the correct handling and management of fibre growth to optimize the quality of resulting end product.

Maggie has the innate ability to translate the technical meaning of fibre and processing for the lay breeder who has yet to fully grasp the understanding of many of the traits and qualities of alpaca fibre. Further the first hand experience that Maggie has been exposed to in the last two and a half years of working with a small processing mill, along with her 12 years of experience in the industry, enables her to impart some of the secrets of successful alpaca fibre growing and value adding through processing.

There will be information imparted that will significantly change the perspective of those who listen carefully. Some new ideas will blow the caps off the experienced bunch and there will be something for everyone to learn.

Afterwards...

A total of 35 members and 5 guests attended the meeting and lecture in sweltering heat - thank goodness the air conditioning worked without a fault... I can attest to the fact that Maggies' lecture was as informative as we had been told. I am now aware of a clearer direction for my breeding program and wait with anticipation for the Auburn event so that I can really get my hands into some more fleeces with the additional information acquired.

One thing that did not come out during the meeting is the fact that Maggie has a CD which is the compilation of the information in her out of print book. The CD is the only source for this information. If you would like to obtain the CD which is way better than any recording of the event... let me know. Having at last had a chance to review this CD I can assure you that it is very comprehensive and being a reocording allows one to take in the data in smaller bites than the lecture. I also missed 90% of the lecture as I was skittering around that day - MSS

Here are a couple of pictures of the attendees
